Frank

I sat across the street from Rachel’s house looking down at my phone, debating about whether or not to answer it. Diamond was calling and I knew I needed to, but then I would have to lie to her about where I was and what I was doing. That was messing with my head. Diamond was just about the only female that I had been with, that I didn't lie to. She made it hard for me to do so.

If I was with her, it was damn near impossible because of her eyes. They did something to me. I couldn't look into Diamond’s eyes and lie to her for some reason, and she knew it. If I was talking to her and wouldn't look her in the eyes, she made me, just so that I would tell her the truth.

I chuckled to myself. That damn girl knew me already and she had me so gone it was crazy. I was a grown ass man dealing with some teenaged love type of behavior. Difference was, what I was feeling was the real deal. Not that puppy love type stuff you were over in a week, but she still had me behaving like I was a damn teenager. I was checking my phone all day, waiting for her to text or call, sending her cute messages to check in and shit, like I miss you, I wish you were near me, I'm struggling and not going to make it if I can't see you soon.

What type of shit is that? I was about to be twenty-eight years old and I’m acting like I'm eighteen. Unfortunately, that was only in relation to Diamond though. The rest of my life was on some grown man shit; like right now, having to lie to Diamond, so that I could go in Rachel’s house and talk to her about keeping her and her kids safe.

“Where are you?” Diamond’s voice was relaxed like she was half asleep.

It was just after ten, which was early as hell for her. She was a night owl, like me. We could stay up all night, and did a lot of times, just watching TV, talking and shit. I loved that about her. Our relationship was easy, we just fit. She could flip it and be my homie, and then just like that her sexy ass would have me wanting to sell everything I owned if it meant keeping her.

“Why, you miss me?”

“No, because I wanna know where you are instead of being here with me.”

I laughed. “I'll be there soon. I just have a few things to take care of first.”

“Like what, Frank? You better not be with some other female and I mean that.”

“Why the fuck I wanna lay up with anybody but you for? Shit you know better, with your paranoid ass.”

“I’m not paranoid, I just know that a man will be a man.”

I could read between the lines. I didn't know who had fucked her over, but Diamond didn't trust worth shit.
